You Only Have 3 Days Left: Boko-Harram to Nigerian Christians Living in Northern Nigeria

Islamic militants in Nigeria gave Christians three days to leave the north following President Goodluck Jonathan's declaration of a state of emergency in four northern states. Boko Haram, a Taliban-inspired group that has carried out a series of raids and bombings in the north and the capital, Abuja, also said Muslims should leave the south of Africa's top oil producer. The group urged "our fellow Muslims to come back to the north because we have evidence that they would be attacked," Abu Qaqa, a spokesman for the group, said today in an e-mailed statement. "We are also giving three days ultimatum to the southerners living in northern Nigeria to move away." (Bloomberg News)

STYLE SPOTTING: BEAUTY TRENDS FOR 2012

2012 is here so I thought I would talk about a few trends that have been predicted to become huge and accelerate this year!

1. Matte Lipstick
Matte lips hold many benefits that a glossy lip colour doesn't. Not only does it photograph amazingly and look great in pictures but it also creates a very sophisticated look and gives the illusion of fuller lips! It's a really popular look with celebrities on the red carpet and is perfect for a night out or a special dinner. This look could also be worn to work because it is less dramatic than a glossy lip.
2. Magnetic Polish
2011 saw shatter and crackle polishes dominate the nail world but in 2012 it's all about magnetic polishes and space nails! It's this super unique invention where you paint your nails as per normal then run a magnet over your nails once they dry and it creates a super crazy awesome design, how cool!? Can't wait to try this out because it sounds really different and interesting.
3. Ombre Hair
Dip died locks became huge in 2011 and shows no signs of slowing down for 2012! Whether is as dramatic as nearly black roots and blonde ends like Drew Barrymore or as subtle as soft brown and soft blonde like Whitney Port, all forms of Ombre are in trend and hot right now. I personally love this look and am glad it's still in the cards for this year.
4. Gold Flakes and Pigments
Gold foil has become fashionable being used in lipsticks with gold flecks through it, high shine shadows and gold-leaf sheets being directly applied to eyebrows, eyes, lips and the face for a dramatic flaky gold effect! This technique made exceptionally famous by a Yves Saint Laurent runway show. Although it is mainly for pictorials and fashion runways, this trend can be included in everyday makeup looks but to a lesser degree by using lipsticks with gold reflects and shimmery gold shadows or liner.
5. Big Brows
Put your tweezers down. This year it's all about big and bold brows so get your eyebrow pencils and brow kits out. Making your eyebrows a main focus in your makeup look is a huge trend for 2012. Many celebrities and fashion designers have already caught onto this style, wearing them around town and styling their models similarly. Celebrities like Lady GaGa, Anne Hathway,  Mila Kunis and Fergie have been spotted wearing thicker brows while designers including the likes of Versace, Valentino, Wes Gordon and Kenzo have all jumped on this bandwagon for their 2012 launches.

So those are some predicted trends for 2012 as we enter a brand new year.

TOP TEN TIPS: TREATING ACNE

Acne is an embarrassing and confidence lowering issue that can make you feel awful and really bad about yourself. Everyone experiences acne at some stage in their life to some degree so I came up with these ten tips to help treat and prevent blemishes and breakouts.

1. Improve your diet.
Sometimes acne is an indication that your insides aren't healthy and you can change this by eating healthier foods like fresh fruit and vegetables, drinking lots of water and making sure you include chromium and zinc in your diet (helps kill bacteria on the skin).

2. Stop touching your face.
The average person touches their face 18 times an hour, that's up to 432 times in a day! Each time you touch your face, you transfer all of the oil and bacteria from your fingers onto your skin and that can cause more break outs and for your acne to become worse.

3. Use the rights products.
Make sure the acne fighting treatments your using contain either salicylic acid or benzyl peroxide because if they don't, the chances are that they aren't going to do much for your acne. Salicylic acid and benzyl peroxide have been found to be the most effective ingredients in improving blemishes on the skin!

4. Remove your makeup.
Always make sure to remove all of your makeup before going to the gym or bed! If you work out with your makeup on, your skin can't let sweat out of your pores so the sweat with stay in your pores, clogging them and making your acne worse. If you wear makeup to bed then you don't allow your skin to breathe and similar to if you wear makeup to the gym, your pores will become blocked and we all know what nasty stuff happens to your skin when your pores get blocked!

5. Cleanse, tone and moisturize.
Make sure to wash your face with an acne cleanser, purify your skin with a toner and rehydrate with a moisturizer when you wake up and just before bed. Cleansing your skin is obviously essential because it removes all of the dirt and excess oil. Toning is important also for tightening your pores to help reduce the amount of bacteria and other yucky stuff that can get in. If you have oily skin you may think skipping out on moisturizer is a great way to save you any excess oil...think again! If you skip the moisturizer, your skin starts to freak out and produce crazy amounts of oil because you just took so much of it away from cleansing and toning. When you use a moisturizer, it balances out your oil by hydrating but not hydrating so much that you skin becomes oily. Three important steps that are the key to clear skin.
6. Don't pick or squeeze your pimples!
Picking and squeezing at your pimples only creates broken skin which exposes the blemish to so much bacteria and dirt and therefore slows down the healing process. Not to mention that picking and squeezing also can cause acne scarring which is much worse than acne because it's really hard to get rid off!

7. Keep your hair off your face.
Just think about how oily your hair gets..do you really want that oil transferred onto your face! Try hairstyles that keep your fringe off your face and your hair back. If you love wearing your hair down, just make sure it's clean.

8. Take a multi vitamin.
For your skin to look healthy and glowing it requires certain types of vitamins and minerals. Most you can get in your diet but if you don't think your getting them you can take a supplement. Some vitamins and minerals that have been found to improve acne are Vitamin A, B, C, E, Zinc and Omega 3 Fatty Acids. Trying to incorporate these into your diet can show visible signs of improvement in acne.

9. Exercise.
Light exercises such as Yoga and Pilates help the circulation of blood in the body which creates healthier skin. This is of course good news for your acne!

10. The big guns.
If you have tried all of the above steps, depending on the acne, sometimes you may need something stronger. I recommend visiting a GP or dermatologist to take a look at what type of acne you have and they will be able to prescribe something that could work really well for you. Sometimes the doctor will prescribe a topical ointment or medication, even acutane in severe cases

I wish you all the best of luck in finding clear skin!

JANUARY BEAUTY BLOGGER

Kicking off 2012 as the January Beauty Blogger is Charlotte from Beauty Ramblings. Charlotte is 19 and from the UK, she has a self proclaimed beauty obsession which definitely shows through in her blog! She blogs about beauty, fashion, nails, makeup, hair and has some really helpful tips and tricks. I personally found her advice on curling hair to be really helpful! Her blog is super entertaining and I love reading what she has to say because she's so funny and has such a sweet personality! I asked Charlotte some questions about makeup, fashion, being a beauty blogger and New Years so keep reading to hear her responses!
What inspired you to begin blogging?
- I'd been watching youtube beauty "gurus" for about two years and I'd been reading beauty blogs for about 6 months but was too nervous to start my own blog. One day I just thought well it's not like anyone will read it so I started up the blog and made my first blogpost!

How would you describe the clothes you wear?
- I usually spend most of my money on make-up/beauty products so I've never really been that into fashion but since working in retail I've loved buying more fashion magazines and reading blogs which are very fashion orientated. I wear what I feel comfortable in so cosy knitwear, pretty blouses and always a dress for a night out!
How would you describe your makeup style?
- The most important part of my make-up routine, for me, is eyeshadow. I wear a nuder lip and toned down cheeks so I can get away with wearing a lot of eyeshadow and I loveeeeeee playing around with eyeshadows and if you've read my blog you can see my eyeshadow addiction is pretty clear for all to see haha! I love neutral shadows such as taupes, bronzes, golds and copper shades. I'm very self-concious about my skin as I suffer with acne so I always wear heavy foundation which is a bit of a chore to apply in the morning.

When you're not blogging, what do you enjoy doing with your time?
- I love shopping and could spend all day in town with regular shopping breaks at Starbucks! ;) I also like dancing, watching tennis and Formula One.
Beauty products you couldn't live without and why?
- This is so hard to choose a few! Definitely concealer, MAC "Studio Finish" is my absolute favourite as it covers absolutely anything. I also love a good, lengthening mascara and a moisturising lip balm such as "Blistex" as I suffer from chapped lips.

New Years Resolutions
- Take up a new hobby, either join the gym or go to zumba classes, go to more blogger events and worry less! Spend more time baking and less time being lazy ;)

A huge thank you to Charlotte for being the first beauty blogger for 2012 on Jordy's Beauty Spot!
