Rutgers University Offers Course on “Politicizing Beyoncé”

Rutgers University plans to offer a course on Beyonce, exploring race, gender, and sex through the lens of one of America’s hottest entertainers.

Kevin Allred, a professor and doctoral student at Rutgers University, sees Beyonce, “as something even greater [than just a singer] with her capacity to effect social change.” Allred says, “This isn’t a course about Beyoncé’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend,” but rather about how she promotes feminism and pushes boundaries. He says, “While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.”

I WONDER WHAT IS NEXT FOR BEYONCE??????

Kylie shows she's a true artist on BRAND NEW 'Finer Feelings' - watch now!

Fierce and mighty.
So there was this girl named Kylie and she was a soap opera star in Australia and then a soap opera star in England and then a pop star everywhere for the next TWO AND A HALF DECADES.  She was at the top of the music heap then at the bottom, and then pulled herself up by her gold hotpants and became the PRINCESS OF EVERYTHING ALWAYS - in the process conquering cancer, having some of the biggest hits of the 2000's and becoming Britian and Australia's most powerful celebrity.

In case you're wondering how she managed all that, the long answer is very complicated and involves branding and marketing and promotion and PowerPoints with lots of tedious graphs and such, but the short answer is THROUGH DECADES OF CONSISTENTLY AMAZING MUSIC.  And just in case you need more clarification about that, someone has chucked together this handy compilation clip that sums up the Pop Princess's videos in a remarkably un-tedious 17 minutes.  It advertises itself as a celebration of one star, but in reality is a time capsule of pop music itself over the last 25 years.  It traces popular song from its 80's infancy to the all-powerful force it is today.  But be warned, ScopiSubjects - you think you'll watch it for just a couple minutes but then 20 minutes later you'll look up from your screen, bleary-eyed and wondering what happened.

Worldwide she's as big as Madonna, and in the U.S. she's a cult celebrity with a fanbase (read: the gays) more rabid than America's biggest acts could ever hope for.  And to celebrate sticking around for 25 years, K-Mo has launched the K25 "project," which is essentially a YEAR-LONG CELEBRATION OF HERSELF - which we think we can all agree is AN AMAZING THING TO DO.  Included in that celebration is new material, and an album of her greatest hits recorded with a live orchestra at Abbey Road studios.  And to kick things off, Kylie has given us this video of her 'Finer Feelings,' which proves once and for all something that die-hard fans learned during her late-90's "indie phase," and what the general public is starting to finally realize - that underneath the glittery pop veneer, Miss Minogue is an ACTUAL ARTIST.

The Truth about the Lies of Friends with Benefits (FWB)

The more you tell a particular lie, the sooner you start believing it’s true. But the truth about lies is that two people cannot tell the same lie effectively forever. Either one of them finds religion, and decides to
spill his guts, or the other begins to believe the lie – and that said lie becomes the only truth known to him, thus he’s stuck in that made-up world, while his cohort sees the lie for what it is – a lie. And viola – a conflict of agreement emerges.

Not all lies are fabricated to deceive. But all lies by their nature are misleading. Come to think of it, “lies” have been called by many names – fiction, fantasy, and pranks are some common social euphemisms for the word – sorry, I digress.

There are some relationships you choose to keep low-key for reasons best known to you, but recently I witnessed the resultant chaos that occurs when the lines between the lies you tell others and the lies you tell yourself become blurry. One of such lies is found in the concept and principles of “Friends with Benefits” – friends who conceal the actual status of their relationship (to close friends and family) while they enjoy the
benefits of steaming sex in private. Oftentimes both parties are single, or in distant relationships – and most commonly this sort of agreement occurs between neighbors, colleagues, classmates, friends of the family; between spouses and in-laws; between landlord and tenant; between boss and executive assistant; between artiste and artiste manager; between co-stars on a movie set – the variants and combinations are endless.

The reasoning and rationale behind this sort of arrangement is usually based on the fact that both parties (influenced mostly by social or peer pressure) may feel awkward or embarrassed by any overt publicity surrounding the dalliance – or maybe just because they both do not need the emotional baggage that comes with a traditional relationship. At this point, I think it’s paramount that I point out the difference between having an affair and having an FWB arrangement – affairs are exclusive to married people. FWB arrangements aren’t exclusive to any group.

Okay. What’s my point here exactly?

In FWB relationships, the common understanding between both parties is “we’re not dating – it’s just sex – there are no feelings involved”, but then to the rest of the world, they announce for matters of decency,“We’re just very close friends, and nothing else”. Did you notice the slight difference in what they tell themselves, and what they tell the world? You did, huh?

But hear the truth about such a gigantic lie: a) most people will tell you men and women can’t just be friends – but the truth is they can, but then most people don’t believe they are – so honestly you’re really not fooling anyone but yourselves, people already suspect something was going on even before it started;  b) there’s no such thing as “it’s just sex – no feelings involved” – for a one night stand, hell yeah – but for someone you spend at least 3 days (and sometimes, maybe nights) of the week with – no way – there’s always feelings, especially if you have to keep up the charade of doing the regular stuff that friends usually do; c) at one point in time, one or two of you will exhibit symptoms of jealousy, betrayal, anger, etc when your “friend with benefits” decides to step out on you with another “friend”, neighbor, or colleague – it becomes territorial – you begin to feel that even if she tells you “oh, we’re just close friends – nothing more” – it resonates exactly what the two of you once declared to the world – so, you can never believe whatever she says about the friend-on-the-side to be true, ah ha, rancor sets in, doubt, territorial feelings at first; d) sometimes the bond between friends is stronger that the bond between lovers, inadvertently, you begin to feel closer to your FWB than you’ve ever been with any spouse or date of yours – but there again, you’ve told yourself a lie – because for a split second, you must have believed or wished the FWB were something more committed, but that’s just you telling yourself another lie, if the other party is more interested in appearances and in the sanctity of the original charade you both designed; e) at a point you both discover you’re both incapable of moving on, or forging emotional relationships, but then again instead of confronting the truth about the lies you’ve designed – you fall into chaos – with oftentimes futile attempts to “break up” with each other; g) you both get so caught up in your lies, you forget to watch how attached and dependent you’ve become on each other – that when you each try to pull away or sever that bond, someone ends up getting terribly hurt) most times when FWB arrangements end, the friends with benefits can never ever be just  friends again – so they often mutually agree to be frenemies – or agree never to speak to or see each other again.

So, you see, the truth about this particular lie is that, no matter how well you tell it, never expect anyone to believe you, let alone deludeyourself into believing it. Never try to turn a lie into the truth – a lie can never automatically metamorphose into being true – however, a lie may
fortunately gain the legitimacy of “acceptance” if the truth about the lie is confronted, evaluated, and embraced before it spins out of control. That said, know this even before you begin – well, ponder on it if you’re already in it – the truth about this lie is that when it ends, someone, somehow, usually ends up feeling screwed.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have reportedly picked the godmother for their daughter Blue Ivy and it’s none other than media mogul Oprah Winfrey. ) It seems only natural that the girl who will one day run the world having already become the youngest person to make the Billboard charts would have the Forbes Celebrity 100’s #2 gal to look after her.

Mary J. Blige took to Twitter to Vent her Frustration over Oscar Awards Snub

The 'No More Drama' Singer Mary J. Blige was upset when finding out that her song "The Living Proof", which serves as a soundtrack for "The Help", got no nomination at this year's Academy Awards.

The Academy award nominations were announced on January 24th and ‘The Help’ is one of the leading films with mentions in Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Viola Davis) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Octavia Spencer & Jessica Chastain). Many people were happy to see more color in the Oscar categories, however, it was surprising that Mary J, Blige’s ‘The Living Proof,’ the original song from ‘The Help,’ wasn’t included in the list of nominees for Best Original Song.

The real problem is that the category she would’ve been nominated in only used 2 of the 5 spots — meaning that there were 3 open spots for more nominees but for whatever reason they just weren’t used. Not only did Mary feel snubbed, she felt downright ignored and she took to her Twitter and tweeted:

“I’m so thankful for true fans like you all. It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean. 2 only nominate 2 of the 5 slots is…….”

Retweets
“@maryjblige Not mean Mary they are being racist..They really don’t want to acknowledge “US’ but great work is simply great work they have to”

“@MaryJBlige With Each Tear, There’s A Lesson….U Kno The Rest. Thank U For Living Proof, Their Mistake.” #mjbnom”

“Even though @maryjblige didn’t get oscar nominated your work has prove to your fans you are “The Living Proof” your day will surely come”

Brillballs Gabriella Cilmi is back with some 'Vicious Love' - watch the premiere now!

Haters can ride it.
In "ABOUT GODDAMN TIME" news, Gabriella Cilmi - who gave us the literally amazing 'Sweet About Me' and 'On A Mission', is back on the scene with a sort-of-single, sort-of-teaser to give a taste of what is in store for her new album.  And it is VERY GOOD.

The Aussie songstress started out at the age of just 16, riding the new-soul tidal wave that brought us Amy Winehouse and Duffy, but then went full-on pop for her second album.  This new material seems to have more in common with her low key soul roots, but luckily for us it seems like she didn't forget everything she learned on her sophomore long-play, as the first track still has a definite pop edge to it.

It's no wonder her handlers have decided to turn back the clock, though - her first album outsold its follow up 2-1, and even spawned some success in America - something she couldn't replicate with her last album, '10'.  Perhaps they're trying to get back some of that chart magic, but we doubt we're alone in hoping there's at least one disco-stomper on the new LP.

Welcome back, Gabriella.  We missed you like whoa.

REVIEW AND SWATCHES: MAC MINERALIZE EYE SHADOWS

Hey girls,
I have barely any of the MAC mineralize eye shadows but the ones I do own, I adore and love using so I figured I would do a little review on the shadows and share my opinions as well as introduce you to the very few colours I own. The whole concept behind the mineralize collection is having light weight cosmetics that feel really natural and like skin due to their fine pearl formulation.
I personally love these shadows because they have a variety of colours in them, always at least two making them very versatile. So they are great for saving time because you only have to use the one shadow for an eye look, money because you get to try a couple of different colours when you buy just one eye shadow and traveling when packing light and only bringing minimal makeup. The pigmentation and quality really varies from shadow to shadow so I will be sure to include that in the description for each one. In comparison to normal MAC shadows which are 1.5g, they are much larger at 2.2g. This factor does affect the price, costing $33AUD for a normal MAC shadow and $38AUD for a mineralize shadow but I do understand the price different because you do get a lot of product and different colours.
Fresh Green Mix: The biggest portion of the shadow is a gorgeous green with gold reflects while the rest is a marble design of a lighter green, gold and a smokey black. The overall pigmentation is quite impressive and shows up really well with no fallout!
The first swatch is the solid green side and the second swatch is the other colours mixed together.

Two To Glow: These colours are gorgeous, half is a bronze orange and the other half is a marble design of brown and baby pink. Unfortunately there is a bit of fall out with this product but the pigmentation is amazing!
The first swatch is the solid orange side and the second swatch is the other colours mixed together.

Bright Side Gallery Gal: One side is a gorgeous olive green with warm gold reflects and the other side is a gorgeous champagne colour which reminds me of Stila "Kitten". Pigmentation is amazing with no fallout!
The first swatch is the solid olive green side and the second swatch is the champagne shadow.

It's A Miracle: The main portion of the eyeshadow is a deep plum colour then there is a little section of gold. The plum is very pigmented with no fall out but the gold is an awful flaky glitter with no pigmentation and heaps of fall out.
The first swatch is the plum shadow and the second swatch is the gold.

Engaging: You can probably tell by the state of mine that I love this shadow, especially the gorgeous pinky nude side! I also really adore the deep gold colour for the crease but I need to use much less of it so it doesn't look like it's been used much but it has because I love this eye shadow to bits! These are very wearable colours and convenient to use to put together a full everyday eye look.
The first swatch is the solid marble gold side and the second swatch is the pinky nude.

What are your thoughts on these Mineralize Eye Shadows?
